This project intends to support youth’s mental and emotional health and improve social connectedness by promoting outdoor activities and outdoor education. Outdoor sports and physical activity solutions provide many advantages in terms of physical and mental health, environmental safety, accessibility, and sustainability, to name a few. The project focuses on supporting teaching staff in schools, universities and other educational institutions in the transition into new ways of working by promoting outdoor learning and outdoor education. The project’s concept is based on the following three postulates: the advantages of outdoor participation and activities for physical and mental wellbeing, storytelling as an approach to inner identity and self-discovery, and integrating them to promote social interaction and solidarity among young people. The main objective is to change educational practices by moving away from frequent indoor activities and to introduce a daily use of the outdoors as resources for improving youth social connectedness and cohesion. As a result, the key dimensions of outdoor activities will be presented, as well as the involvement of professionals and educators in providing high-quality outdoor play opportunities.
The overall objective is to develop a program that will incorporate different tools based on outdoor activities, nature-friendly approach and art of storytelling as a manner for self – discovering and achieving social connectivity, social interaction, cohesion and empathy.
